In Memory of Joe Fahy

From Glenrevagh’s fields where the wild winds blow,
There lived a man well known , dear Joe.
A son of the land, steadfast and true,
With honest hands and a heart that grew.

Born of great stock, from roots deep and strong,
He carried the virtues passed down for so long.
The soil knew his footsteps, the furrow his skill,
As he guided the plough with purpose and will.

With his faithful horses at the break of day,
He followed the old traditions in his quiet way.
Across the rich fields of Corrandulla’s plain,
He worked through sunshine, hardship, and rain.

The land gave its respect to the lines he drew,
For few could match the work Joe knew.
The horses trusted the hand on the reins,
As he left straight furrows across Galway’s plains.

With the ESB he gave years of care,
Bringing light and service everywhere.
Dependable, loyal, quiet and kind,
The measure of the man was in the lives he’d bind.

And when Sunday came, Joe had his own delight,
A gentle drive out, the road stretched in sight.
Never in a hurry, never one for speed,
Taking his time was a creed indeed.

Many a driver smiled with a sigh,
Wondering gently if they’d ever get by.
But Joe would just wave with a twinkle and grin,
For life’s not a race when you’re happy within.

Neighbours and friends will fondly recall
A gentleman whose word stood firm through all.
A ready smile, a helping hand,
A proud and valued son of the land.

Though now he rests beyond our sight,
His memory remains a guiding light.
In every furrow, field, and lane,
The mark of Joe Fahy shall remain.

May the earth lie gently upon his breast,
And may eternal peace grant him rest.
While those who loved him carry on,
His spirit lives where he belonged
